Izomax provides rapid response to avoid Platform shutdown due to PSV issue

When one of the world’s largest offshore operators reached out to Izomax for immediate assistance this Fall, the Izomax team initiated a rapid feasibility, engineering review and mobilization to avoid a shutdown on an offshore gas production platform in the North Sea. The client was in a difficult situation – a critical Pressure Safety Valve required urgent recalibration. The nearest valve was awaiting repair, so the PSV could not be isolated for calibration without a shutdown.

Fortunately, Izomax had already completed a site survey in association with a wider scope to repair and replace valves on the platform – allowing the onshore team to focus entirely on engineering and operational challenges. Working closely with our engineering team and our suppliers, minor modifications would be required to our 8” 150-class tool to ensure a flawless isolation, allowing the PSV to be removed and recalibrated.

Our engineering and workshop teams excelled, with the tool modifications tested and mobilized within 2 days of receiving the order from the client. The AOGV arrived offshore and was in place on the flange pair next to the PSV within hours, with the Izomax crew and client lined up ready to rectify the situation. The recalibrated PSV was back in place within 6 hours of the AOGV isolation being tested and confirmed.

Whilst the majority of AOGV projects are planned and executed over a period of weeks or months, this example is a great reminder that unplanned events offshore which normally lead to shutdowns or outages can often be avoided by contacting Izomax.

We don’t always have the answer – but our team will always engage and respond to help our customers keep operations going.
